Nirantara
is replicating the pioneering Grameen Bank System
with local modifications. We form peer-pressure /
joint liability groups consisting of 10 members and
such 3 groups join together to form a structure
called ‘Centre’.
A Centre is a basic business structure where all the
transactions happen. Through centre is made up of
1-3 centres, all the members of the centre agree for
joint liability (For example, if a member of a group
misses her repayment, all other 29 members share the
liability).
A centre meets once in a week, on a fixed day and
fixed time. Our Field Executive (FE) visits all the
centres assigned to him/her. Usually our FEs visits
4-6 centres a day (from 7 to 10.30 am, from Monday
to Friday) and complete all financial transactions
such as loan application collection, loan
disbursement, repayment collection, etc.
A Branch Office (BO) consists of 6 FEs, one
Assistant Branch Manager and a Branch Manager. A BO,
at its peak, serves 4,500 borrowers (active
members). Thus each FE serves 750 borrowers. Such
4-6 BOs (working in the same premises) form an Area
Office (AO). Area Manager heads the AO. Nirantara
considers each revenue district as an Area Office
with a potential of 4-6 BOs serving 20,000 to 25,000
borrowers over a period of 3-4 years.
Nirantara provides all the services at the doorstep
of the clients. This implies that members /
borrowers need to visit our branch offices ever,
except for one reason, pre-settlement of the loan.
