Who are we?
Nirantara Community
Services (in short, Nirantara) was conceived in early 2006 by
few likeminded professionals committed for poverty eradication.
Their experience in the development sector, exposure in
microfinance domain and innate social-entrepreneurial zeal
resulted in to establishment of Nirantara during December 2006.
The institution was registered as a Society under Karnataka
Societies Registration Act of 1960 at Bidar on 27th December
2006. |

Key
Objectives:
 |
To
provide market-lead financial products and
services to less privileged community and
help them come to main stream. |
 |
To
provide need based non-financial
socio-economic developmental services. |
 |
To
provide other value-added services to the
community and help them to live a dignified
life. |
|
What we do?
We support
livelihoods of poor families through a powerful tool called
microfinance. Microfinance is not jut credit. It also comprises
of many value-added and need-based services for poor households
including saving services, risk coverage through insurance,
capacity building, enterprise/business development services,
etc. Currently Nirantara is providing micro-credit and
micro-insurance products and services.
Who are our clients?
We serve poor
families living in the margin of poverty line. Currently we are
working only with women member of such families.
Where we
work?
We work wherever
there is poverty and need of financial services. Currently we
are working in urban and semi-urban areas. Nirantara will
provide livelihood development services where the community /
area lack direct formal financial coverage.
How we work?
We are replicating
pioneering Grameen Bank System with local modifications. We
facilitate formation of joint liability groups of 10 members and
such three groups get integrated in to a centre. The centre
meets on weekly basis in a fixed place and fixed time. All the
transactions take place during centre meeting (loan
disbursement, repayment collection and other discussions).
Where we
stand now?
Nirantara’s first
year (2006-07) was very brief. Though we started our operations
in 2006-07 (March 2007), things started happening only during
2007-08. The fiscal 2007-08 was exceptionally good for us as we
established all the basic systems, attracted mainstream funders,
established our operations in two districts, reached to over
3000 poor families, and so on.
